I Want My Nappy!

Tonight we suggested that because Tori is such a big girl, maybe she would like to go to bed without wearing a nappy. We put the potty and her toilet roll beside her bed, same as we do for every nap time she has (happily, with no nappy), and said that we’d leave her torch by her bed if she needed it in the dark.

To put it mildly, Tori exploded.

Tears, snot, snivelling, wailing, hysterics and unintelligible mumbling. Eventually we got some sense out of her, sobbed dramatically – Tori wanted to wear her nappy.

No amount of gentle persuasion or suggestion could console her, the only thing that stopped the tears was letting her fetch herself a clean nappy and helping her to put it on.

Um, help?

She doesn’t wear a nappy during the day at all any more when she is at home with us or out and about, with the sole exception of when we know we are going to be in the car for an extended period of time where we might not be able to stop – but those times are getting fewer.

She was excited to stop wearing nappies and move onto pants because it meant she was a big girl.

But not, it would seem, after nightfall.

I’ve got no idea what to do next. Do I just leave her for now and wait until she suggests it herself? Or is there some other method that will quell her fears about nappy-less nights?

All suggestions welcome!

  1. I guess she’s just not confident enough to brave the night without one. For that I’d say she’s a sensible lil girl and may even let you know when it’s time to ditch ‘em for good. You could always remind her in a month or so. Up to you to see how it goes. 🙂
