Trying to keep up with my reading this month has been hard, but I have managed to read slightly less free porn than I did in June!
This month I have read:
Goodnight Little One by Maraget Wise Brown (Review here)
Things You Never Knew About Dinosaurs by Giles Paley-Phillips (Review here)
The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #2) by Michele Hodkin (Review here)
Try Me (One Night with Sole Regret, #1) by Olivia Cunning: I picked this up with very low expectations and found myself pleasantly surprised. It had a storyline, characters with a reasonable amount of depth, very few spelling and grammar errors and felt like it had been written with a bit of love and attention. As free erotica on Kindle goes, this is pretty good and worth a read if you are into bad-boy rock stars and slightly ‘interesting’ sex. It even made me laugh out loud at one point because it was funny, not because it was ridiculous! 4/5*
Black Dawn (Night World #8) by L. J. Smith: I still love this series. The variety of the Night World universe keeps you from getting bored and the individual storylines are strong as well as carrying the main theme throughout. I am going to be very frustrated if I can’t find the next books in the series to read. 4.5/5*
Pleasures of Somerville Park (Somerville Park #1.5) by Ava March: Another Kindle freebie of the gay erotic variety – well written and with enough character depth that I could believe that the full novels would be readable and enjoyable. The only issue I had with the whole thing was that one of the main characters was called ‘Arsen- which is a bit unfortunate given how much the word ‘arse’ tends to crop up in books of this nature. 4/5*
In His World (In His World #1) by Desiree Monet: Easily the worst free porn book I have forced myself to read yet. The storyline was pathetic, the main character was weak willed and shallow, the English was terrible and read like a bad translation and the author was clearly afraid of using anything like the normal terms for human anatomy. It was like they had done a Google search on alternative terms for breasts and the like. I have never seen so many dubious euphemisms in one short book, everything from ‘pleasure mountains’ to ‘her hot love cauldron’ – I literally cried laughing through the sex scenes. If you ever want a ‘How Not To’ guide, read this. 0.5/5*
Witchlight (Night World #9) by L. J. Smith: I was right. I am utterly frustrated because I desperately want to know what happens next but my supply of Night World novels has now run out. I need to go on a hunt for book 10! 5/5*
Along with that little lot I am 3/4 of the way through Alice Hoffman‘s The Story Sisters and still battling with Vera Nazarian’s The Cobweb Bride.
This brings my total for the year up to 42 meaning I have 33 books to read before December 31st to hit my 75 target…
