Mmmm, food!

Last week’s efforts were met with mixed reception. I think I was the only one who particularly enjoyed the Ginger-Braised Belly Pork dish (first picture), but the Lasagne-Style Pasta and the Ham and Sprout Pasta both went down well all round. However the clear winner of the week was the Slow-Cooked Meatballs with Cheesy Mash (Pictures 2 & 3) which everyone loved and have requested to become a regular on the menu.
This Week’s Planned Meals:
Pizza – Cub Scouts and Squirrel Scouts started back up this week, so the Monday pizza routine has resumed. I vanish off to the Scout hut for four and a half hours or so and everyone else makes their pizza whenever. Then I have mine when I get back as recovery food. My ears have usually just about stopped ringing by the time I have finished eating.
Chilli Pork Chops with Creamed Herb Corn (Sorted Sidekick App) – I am nervous about this one – I’m still working out where the Not-So-Smalls (and I) sit on the spice tolerance scale. Need to get the chilli heat right or we are all going to be crying (well, all of us except Caius, anyway).
Baked Fish with Kedgeree-Style Rice (Sorted Sidekick App) – I realised we haven’t had fish for a while, so picked a simple recipe to try out.
I think next time I will use salmon rather than smoked basa fillets, and maybe also boil an egg or two to chop through the rice as well. As a base dish though it wasn’t bad and was nice and easy to make.
Creamy Pea and Pancetta Pasta with Gremolata (Sorted Sidekick App)– What even is gremolata? I have no idea. I will tell you after I have made it, I guess!
Creamy Mushroom and Mustard Gnocchi (Sorted Sidekick App) – It is the time of year for comfort food. And top of my comfort food lists are things involving potatoes, cream and/or cheese. This has all of those, so I am looking forward to it immensely.
Pigs in Blankets and White Bean Tray Bake (Sorted Sidekick App) – It’s still basically Christmas, right? Pigs in Blankets remain an acceptable dinner centrepiece…
Pea, Lemon and Brown Butter Orzo (Sorted Sidekick App) – I love orzo. Arthur isn’t so keen however, so let’s see if this is the recipe to win him over. (It’s just tiny pasta, I don’t know why he doesn’t like it. Strange child.)
