To fill in some of last week’s mystery dishes, between Tori, James & I we cooked: Spinach & Cream Cheese Pasta (Sorted Sidekick), Potato & Sausage Hash with Smoky Tomato Sauce (Sorted Sidekick), and Chicken Fajitas (No recipe needed!)
Cooking in someone else’s kitchen is always fun - guessing where they keep what, and how to use their oven. It is fun to cook with friends, although it does take longer than usual when you stop to have chopping lessons and impromptu weights sessions with the tinned tomatoes in the middle of it!
Second photo is Artie looking all smug with his cheaty pancakes on Pancake Day (I bought pre-made ones) – it was his first time using our new microwave and he was disproportionately pleased with himself afterwards and demanded that I took a photo.
This Week’s Planned Meals:
I’m going all in on Sidekick this week and cooking two of their ‘packs’ – sets of three recipes designed to share ingredients of standard sized UK packets in order to reduce food waste and make shopping easier and more cost effective. The packs are called Chorizo Knockouts and Hearty Indian – I’ll leave you to work out which recipes are from which pack!
WE DIDN’T HAVE PIZZA ON MONDAY!!! Because it was half term so I didn’t have to do the Squbs Dash and we had just got back from James’s house so had no real food in the house, Artie had cereal. Tori had soup, and Caius and I had a takeaway.
Tadka Dhal with Crispy Greens & Rice (Sorted Sidekick) – This was a half-win. The dhal was tasty, filling, and quite easy to make, but we weren’t keen on the texture of the ‘crispy’ greens in the rice. I think if I make this again it will just be rice with some peas or something stirred through instead.
Chorizo & Garlic Baked Rice with Charred Greens (Sorted Sidekick) – I am quite looking forward to this one, though I’m sure Artie is going to grumble about having rice again AND it involving green things. But nothing new there.
Gnocchi Tikka Masala with Roasted Gem Lettuce (Sorted Sidekick) – Why yes, I have still managed to slide a gnocchi recipe in. Look at me go! Not sure I have roasted lettuce before – kind of excited for that.
Chorizo & Puy Lentil Stew with Garlic Aioli (Sorted Sidekick) – I’m sure the Not-So-Smalls will have lots of things to say about me inflicting yet another white sauce-y accompaniment to a meal, and none of them will be approving. But ho hum, maybe this will be the one to make them change their minds. (It won’t be…)
Saag Paneer & Toasted Naan (Sorted Sidekick) – Well, kind of. Couldn’t source Paneer cheese anywhere so have an alternative as suggested by the internet. Might also do some pilau rice to go with this one, haven’t decided yet.
Roast Chorizo & Cherry Tomato Pasta (Sorted Sidekick) – Finishing up with a nice ‘safe’ recipe after a bit of an adventurous week!
I suspect there will be demands for simple favourites after this lot, especially as they’ve gone a whole entire extra week without their dose of pizza as well. However will they cope?
