Back to School

The summer is officially over today as the Not-So-Smalls have headed back to school.

This year has got me feeling old – T is starting Year 11. GCSEs are looming and next year will be all change.

I swear it was only five minutes ago I was getting all emotional about her starting Primary school…

A is going into Year 9 which I’m okay with, I’d just prefer it if he wasn’t basically the same height as the front door now.

T’s summer hair has not washed out in time for the return to school, but they are just going to have to deal with that. It’s fading quite fast now, so they won’t have to endure the trauma of her ‘extreme colour/style’ for very long (I do not understand this rule. Hair style does not affect learning ability so long as they can see/tie it back for safety reasons – who cares what colour/length/style it is? Oh well, at least they’ve stopped getting grouchy about what shade of blue their PE socks are these days…)

It’s also back to Scouting this week, so it’s all go go go!

Well, the main meetings start back from today – we have been having planning meetings for the Leaders over the last week or so. And the Not-So-Smalls and I helped out with a couple of other leaders at the Hinstock 10k last weekend – giving out the medals & goody bags and running a bag drop and mid-race water station – so it sort of already restarted for some of us.

I am looking forward to getting back into knowing what day of the week it is – without our Cub/Squirrel/Scout/Explorer meetings every week I totally lose track of all sense of day/time. Not even having the day and date displayed on my phone in front of my face multiple times a day helps when I haven’t got solid ‘Things That Happen’ to back it up.

On that note, I am going to go and check my First Aid Kit and pencil case to make sure they’re stocked up and ready to go for the new term!
