Good Morning, Blogsters! (At least I hope it is, if not, then just Morning!)
I had a thought last night, about how, when trying to cheer people up, it is often suggested that you think of things that you’re good at, to remind yourself of the better things rather than the bad bits.
And how I have really, really struggled with this many times previously because I always feel like that things I have to be proud of being good at need to be Important or Skilled. Things that could forward my purpose in society, or inspire a small nation. You know, that sort of thing.
So when faced with the encouraging, gentle prompt to ‘share something I’m good at’, my brain would utterly shut down and I’d be left in the dark thinking ‘I’m not good at anything that matters, what is the point in me?’ and ultimately feeling even worse than before the nice, well-meaning person tried to help.
So I thought today we could share some of the absolutely not important things we are good at – because they might not further our careers, or make people want to follow us into battle, but they bring us joy and that is ultimately more useful than anything else because it gives us all a reason to keep on doing what we do – living.
For example – I am pretty good at making Yorkshire Puddings.
And both making and eating them brings me joy.
So share with me – what random little things are you good at? Styling your hair? Making something weirdly specific? Remembering song titles and artists? (If it’s that last one, can we please be on the same team at quizzes, because I’m rubbish at that – I’ll have a stab at all the nature and literature questions, you can do the music rounds.)
