October Z’Adventure ’24 – Part 1

This last weekend, Caius and I deposited the Not-So-Smalls with family and booked The Zoo’s favourite keepers before taking ourselves and the Z4 off on an adventure. (Thank you everyone! We really appreciate it and the N-S-Ss and the Fuzzies enjoyed your company very much.)

We went off to join some fellow Z4 owners and enthusiasts on a Zed Run around the Scottish Borders/Lowlands together.

Day One started out in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and finished in Stonykirk in Dumfries & Galloway, with a few stops along the way to take in the view/sample cake.

We had every single season in one day as we travelled – from glorious sunshine and endless views, to fog so thick you could barely see two cars ahead.

But it never rained enough for us to give in and put the roof up, even if the heating did get cranked up quite high every now and then against the October chill.

Needless to say, the scenery was spectacular. It always is, but the golden Autumnal colours just give it that extra something and there were truly some breathtaking stretches of road along the way that I was never going to be able to capture on my phone clutched tightly above my head blindly snapping pictures.

I tried though!

We had a few interesting moments, such as when the glass in our driver-side wing mirror decided it was done with us all and threw itself on the floor entirely unprompted, but it was mostly smooth sailing all day. (I know we weren’t on boats, but I can’t think of a nice alliterative equivalent for driving…)

We ended the day at the rather lovely Torrs Warren Country House Hotel, where we made their car park look super cool with all our (now slightly grubby) Zeds .

We enjoyed a very delicious dinner there and then settled in for the night to weather Storm Ashley as it blew over (and round, and through) – hoping that it would all clear as predicted by mid-morning the next day so we could get those roofs back down and get back on the road safely.

Pictured above is the Hotel and some of my favourite interior decor, their resident alpacas Porridge and Patch, and my delicious cheesecake dessert.

Tune in tomorrow for Day Two!

*P.S. You may award yourself a sticker if you noticed the new Blogtober banner – I updated it from using a free stock image to one I took over the weekend featuring some glorious Scottish trees and one of the Zeds from the run.

*P.P.S. If you don’t have stickers, simply award yourself something equivalent such as a chocolate button or three, a new dress, or a gin & tonic.

*P.P.P.S. If you totally didn’t notice, you can award yourself a sticker/sticker alternative anyway just for reading this far. Well done you!
