October Z’Adventure ’24 – Part 3

Time for Day Three (and Four)!

Zedd continued to fluctuate between starting just fine, and needing things jiggling all the next day. But it never flat out refused to go, so it’s all good.

Our third day started with breakfast in a garden centre where we were entertained by a very beautiful fox red Labrador puppy having some socialisation training on the other side of the window whilst we ate.

Then we trundled across country to visit a friend we hadn’t seen for a few years. He has got himself a gorgeous Mark 1 Mazda MX5 which he is working on, so after a quick catch up, he took us out on one of his favourite local runs to the spectacular Scott’s View.

There’s something really nice about sharing a run out in cars. You might not all be in the same vehicle, but it still feels really social when you enjoy the same views and then stop in the same places to have a drink/cake/just admire the general surroundings.

I just love the MX5’s pop-up lights. They’ve got such cute faces!

Next up, we headed to Duns for fuel and decided to visit the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum. This is a really well presented and maintained museum and I’d recommend it if you are an F1 enthusiast and happen to be in the area. I got myself a souvenir cloth badge to sew on my blanket (or a hoodie) because I didn’t think they’d let me take any of the cars on display home.

Then we made our way across the scenic route to Leith in Edinburgh which was our destination for the night.

We had to stop for some interesting plant vehicles to cross the road at one point, silhouetted against the sunset, and I spotted a Halfords that was still open so we were able to stop and grab a new piece of mirror glass for the wing mirror as well.

Once we were booked into Premier Inn for the night, we wandered into town to Teuchter’s Landing for dinner (some of the best Macaroni Cheese I’ve ever had) and took a beautiful photo of ourselves as we remembered it was actually our Wedding Anniversary.

Then I beat Caius at Scrabble (but only just, he could have won if he’d made a different choice at the end!) and we headed back to the hotel along the waterfront, stopping to admire the big boats in the docks.

The next morning, I headed home, leaving Caius in Scotland for a few days to attend a conference.

Zedd was still being temperamental about restarting so I bit the bullet and drove the whole way back without turning the engine off at any point. I did stop briefly when I got cramp in my foot, but the engine was never switched off.

Five and a half hours later, I made it home! Roof down the whole way of course – and my audiobook kept me plenty company.

Then I swapped into Ditto, popped to Macdonalds for a late lunch/recovery meal and drove to my parents’ to collect the Not-So-Smalls.

Then had the keys-locked-in-car incident previously mentioned.

Then came home and had a slightly too hot bath whilst I finished my audiobook, and went to bed, because it had been a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG day.

And that’s it – Z’adventure complete! Until the next one of course.
