Reasons To Be Cheerful 1, 2, 3…

Another week has flown by and it’s time to reflect on what reasons it has given me to be cheerful. I know I say this every week but I do love this meme ๐Ÿ™‚

1.

We had another wonderful family weekend

It was Mum’s big birthday on Sunday and, with Arthur arriving the Tuesday before and my big sis having a birthday today, we had lots to celebrate. Everyone got together and we went out for food and just spent some quality time together having a bit of a giggle and enjoying each other’s company.

Dave had a good send off

You may remember me posting about an old friend passing away a couple of Sundays ago. Well it was his Thanksgiving Service yesterday and it was beautiful. Yes there were tears all round. Yes it was sad. But you know what? We laughed. Everyone. We sat there in church and we laughed at old stories and some of Dave’s own (cheesy) quips and jokes, we listened to a recording of his beautiful Welsh tenor voice and smiled.

We remembered together a wonderful man who reached out and touched many lives through teaching and just through being himself. He was your typical ‘little Welsh-man’ and the perfect gentleman all at once. He always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone, he always had a joke that made you laugh and groan at the same time and he always, always, had time to say hello.

It may seem odd having a funeral as a reason to be cheerful but it was good for everyone to come together and remember him together. A bittersweet reason rather than just straight cheerful.

Dave would have loved the singing – we belted out the hymns especially for him.

Rest in Peace, Dave, we all miss you.

x God Bless x

Tori is coming round to her new ‘Bay-Bee’ brother

Tori really wasn’t sure at first. She’d back off if Arthur cried and generally was ignoring him more than anything. Over the last few days however she has started to show a positive interest in him – she kissed him goodnight, held his hand, gets concerned if he cries and generally likes to know where he is.

I knew she’d come round to him eventually, it just makes me go all warm and fuzzy inside when I see her gently stroking his arm or when she says ‘oh no, Bay-Bee!’ when he cries. She might not understand the concept of ‘brother and sister’ just yet but she is clearly starting to care about this new little bundle in her life already and it’s only been 9 days since he arrived ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. What a wonderful week, and so glad that Tori is getting used to her baby brother and that your friend got a good send off with lots of singing. And aren’t family weekends just the best? ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I was expecting to see reason three ๐Ÿ™‚ I adore the strong bond that is growing between Addy and Dylan. I remember when Charis was born and I tried to gently introduce her to 2 1/2 year old big sis. She took one disdainful look at baby Charis, said “I don’t like baby carrots” and stormed off. Thankfully, things did get better x

  3. I think that family photograph is wonderful and if that is your Mum holding the balloon, I think they got the age wrong as no way is she 60.
I smiled throughout my Mum’s funeral. She had planned the prayers and hymns herself and I just thought she would be amused by the whole thing really. Your tribute to Dave is lovely.
My boy did not show an interest in his little sister until her first birthday and that was only cos he wanted her cake and one for him too. They love each other now. Babies are just a bit boring to kids I suppose.

  4. A beautiful send off for your friend. That is how things should be. A lovely family photo and, yes, a bit of bonding between siblings. Life is good.
