Normally I do this as part of my April TBR post but, as you will see tomorrow, I have something a little different going on for that this time so instead you’re getting a quick round up today.

This month I finished seven books in total (and gained a pretty signed poster as well) which means I am up to 22/52 in my yearly goal.

First up I read How Do You Like Me Now? by Holly Bourne which was brilliant (5*) although a little perplexing because the main character was called Tori!

Then I devoured the audiobook version of Brian Blessed’s The Panther In My Kitchen: My Wild Life With Animals which was fabulous. Partly because he narrated it himself, and partly because it was fascinating and charming and perfect for an animal lover like me. It felt a lot like he was sat in my front room chatting to me whilst I was listening and I missed it when I was finished!

The Kites Are Flying! by Michael Morpurgo was my next read, a short but touching story about life either side of the wall in Israel. (5*)

Terry Wogan’s Little Book Of Common Sense was next (3.5*) and whilst I did enjoy this, I don’t think it had aged particularly well. It was an enjoyable half hour read though.

I then picked up an eBook copy of The Pale Dreamer which is the prequel novella to Samantha Shannon’s Bone Season series, the first of which has been on my shelf for quite some time. I LOVED it! If I didn’t have big plans for April already, I’d have been diving into the next book straight away. It definitely got me excited for the series though and I am looking forward to jumping back into the world as soon as I can! (5*)

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver was next – my first one of her adult novels and I wasn’t disappointed at all! A traditional style ghost story set in the Arctic Winter, it was haunting and atmospheric and had me on the edge of my seat. A solid 4* read that has me excited to read the other two of her adult books I have on my shelves (one is a signed ARC of her latest book that I won this week!)

And finally, I read A Slip Under The Microscope by H. G. Wells which was this month’s Penguin Little Black Classic. It was interesting to read as I have only read Wells’ science fiction before and this was more contemporary. A good 4* and quite readable once you adjusted to the style and language.

This month I was able to check off ‘standalone’ with How Do You Like Me Now, ‘a genre you don’t normally read’ with the autobiography, and ‘on your TBR for 2+ years’ because I bought Dark Matter in 2011 which is definitely more than 2 years ago!
