The world is full of doom and gloom and rain clouds and mud, and it’s very easy for all of that to seep into every day life and make everything feel overwhelming and pointless.
Or maybe that’s just me?
Either way, something I find helpful in battle the never-ending stream of ick, is to stop and come up with Three Good Things that have happened in a day. They don’t have to be big, grand things (though they might be) – just something that made me smile in the moment, or was helpful or hopeful.
It reminds me that whilst not every day is a good day, there is good in every day. (I cannot remember who coined that phrase, but it has stuck with me.)
Thinking along those lines, I thought I’d start taking a moment to pick out three good things that have happened in the last week, and posting them on here. I will try and do it on a Wednesday, but it may well end up being on other days because I am forgetful and disorganised.
That way I can share some joy that might help interrupt the doom-scrolling of the news and whatnot.
Anyway, here are my Three Good Things for the last week:
I spent time with Kew.

Last week I got to spend the afternoon with my favourite furry nephew, Kew. We went for a highly entertaining ‘walk’ where he decided where we were going, changed his mind, then stubbornly lay down on his friend’s drive for twenty minutes and refused to move just in case they came out to say hello.
He is such a silly boy and I love him and his giant Yoda ears.
Attingham Park Snowdrop Wood
On Saturday we went to Attingham Park because I felt like going somewhere a bit different for the dog walk – and it is snowdrop season so they had a beautiful trail through the woods to admire them.
It was very peaceful and pretty and I felt much better for the trip out afterwards.

I helped a furry friend in need.
On Sunday, I popped to Sainsbury’s in the car to buy some milk because we’d run out and Arthur wanted breakfast before he was headed out with a friend.
What I came back with, was a bottle of milk… and a dog.
When I arrived at Sainsbury’s there were two women and a member of Sainsbury’s staff watching a large dog jump between the Sainbury’s car park and the car park of the pub next door, showing particular interest n a couple of the cars.
There was nobody else in sight and the dog seemed a little wound up.
I wandered over and asked if everything was okay – apparently the dog had been there a while. They weren’t sure what to do, as it was a large dog (Akita type) and they needed to get to work, but also were concerned that it was going to run into the road or hurt itself or someone else.
I had a spare lead in the car, so I went and got it, and then headed over to see if the dog wanted to be friends.
It immediately came over when I called out to it, and was perfectly relaxed and happy when I clipped the lead onto its collar.
A few seconds of making friends and saying hello was all it took to realise that it was out alone – under the copious amount of fluff its ribs and spine were very prominent, it had matts in its fur, and it smelled awful.
I volunteered to get the dog (which I was pretty sure was a girl by now) somewhere safe, so the other women headed off and back into work, and I took her back to the car. She walked beautifully and happily on the lead, and hopped in the boot the moment I opened it.
I took her home, gave Arthur his milk, and rang my local rescue in the hope that they could scan her for a microchip and look after her until (hopefully) her owners could be located.
She was obviously someone’s pet – she was gentle and affectionate, knew all her basic commands, was good on the lead, wasn’t at all hand-shy and travelled nicely in the car.
The rescue said they could look after her, so off we went. They scanned her chip and I left her with them to get a decent meal and some TLC whilst the hunt to find out where she belongs kicked off.
I left my details with them, so with luck in a while I’ll get an update on her. I am really hoping there is a happy ending and someone somewhere had been missing her and they can be reunited. But if that isn’t to be, I know the rescue will take great care of her until they can find her a new forever home.
I’m just glad I randomly went to get milk that morning!

Hm. There’s a theme to those three things, isn’t there?
It’s like furry friends make me happy or something.
What things have made you smile in the last few days?
