Forever Grandma – A Poem.

I wrote this poem when my Grandma died in 2007. I read it out at her funeral and often find myself looking back at it when I think of her. The Creative Writing student in me wants to edit bits but I resist simply because this is how it was for her and I don’t want to change it.

Forever Grandma

Can’t you feel me?

My love’s still here.

My body’s gone,
As all depart,
Yet I live on
Inside your heart.

Can’t you hear me

On the breeze?

I’ll whisper to you,
Through your tears
And softly banish
All your fears.

Can’t you see me?

I’m with you still.

When you’re alone,
Look up to the sky,
I’ll shine there for you,
A gleam in your eye.

I can feel you

All the time.

Whenever you laugh,
Or frown or smile,
I can feel the love inside
That fills you all the while.

I can hear you,

Even now.

If you whisper
When you’re scared,
When you shout
Or say your prayers.

And I can see you

Where you are.

I’ll stay with you all the time,
Watching over from above.
So please remember when you cry,
I’m looking down in love.
