Today, Carole Finds Her Wings, is taking part in the blog tour of an exciting new book on the block – Burned and Broken by Mark Hardie which is out for release on eBook.
Mark Hardie began full-time writing in 2002 after completely loosing his eyesight and Burned and Broken is his debut novel.
Before I share the blurb with you (as I promised to do yesterday), can we just take a proper look at that cover? I just love the contrast between the bright, colourful fairground scene at the bottom and the dark, moody ocean and brooding sky at the top. Coupled with the book title, the whole thing has quite a sinister feel – the fairground subtly shifting from exciting to a tiny bit creepy. So clever!
So what is Burned and Broken about? I’ll let the blurb tell you:
The charred body of an enigmatic policeman – currently the subject of an internal investigation – is found in the burnt-out shell of his car on the Southend sea front.
Meanwhile, a vulnerable young woman, fresh out of the care system, is trying to discover the truth behind the sudden death of her best friend.
As DS Frank Pearson and DC Catherine Russell from the Essex Police Major Investigation Team are brought in to solve the mystery of their colleague’s death, dark, dangerous secrets begin to surface. Can they solve both cases, before it’s too late?
Mark Hardie’s stylish and gripping debut introduces a brilliant new detective duo to the world of crime fiction, weaving together two suspenseful stories that end in a breath-taking finale.
I am really looking forward to reading Burned and Broken when my copy arrives – I will have the review up for you in time for the release of the paperback version!
