This month has involved a quite few books, mostly because I have started reading chapter books at bedtime with Tori and, because they are new to me, I don’t see why they shouldn’t count towards my total! I’ve really enjoyed a few of them, more so because Tori has loved them too and nothing brings me more joy than the kids discovering the wonder of books.

The other big boost was my decision to join in with the LGBT Readathon (hosted by Faye on her blog here) which meant that I read four books in the last week of May alone!

In May I have read:

The Undead Pool (The Hollows #12) by Kim Harrison, 5/5*: As good as the rest of the Hollows series, bringing together storylines and characters I have eagerly anticipated for years through the rest of the books. I just need the next, the last, one now. That’s a need, not a want. Need.

I Shall Wear Midnight (Discworld #38) by Terry Pratchett, 5/5*: Another dose of Sir Pratchett’s genius. Not many left for me to hunt down and read now, sadly.

Attack Of The Lizard King (Dinosaur Cove Cretaceous #1) by Rex Stone, 5/5*: Tori and I loved this one – you can’t beat a good old-fashioned dinosaur adventure! We enjoyed it so much I have hunted down the rest of the series (with help from my mum, thanks Mum!) so we can read them together.

Shelley Holmes Ace Detective by Michaela Morgan, 4/5*: Tori brought this one home from school to read and it was surprisingly good. Tori read most of it to me and we enjoyed trying to guess what was going on before the characters worked it out and solved the mystery. I particularly liked that the main character’s dog was called Dustbin, it made me giggle.

The Proud Piglet (Little Animal Ark #10) by Lucy Daniels, 4/5*: Tori and I enjoyed sharing this together although Tori does now want a pet piglet and a duck pond in the garden…

Winter’s Passage (Iron Frey #1.5) by Julie Kagawa, 4/5*: A lovely little novella bridging the gap between books one and two in the Iron Fey series. It was great as a reminder of the universe before I picked up book three.

I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson: Started as part of the LGBT Readathon but not finished in time!

Assassin’s Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy #1) by Robin Hobb (Audiobook): Still plugging through this one when I’m in the mood to listen to a story. The narrator has a bit of an odd accent though and I find it hard to listen to for long chunks.

The Charge Of The Three-Horned Monster (Dinosaur Cove Cretaceous #2) by Rex Stone: Again, I’m reading this with Tori and we are loving exploring Dino World with Tom and Jamie and little Wanna the dinosaur.

I abandoned Half Dead and Fully Broken by Kevin Craig as even after I made the effort to pick it back up I realised I just didn’t care enough about the characters or the story to invest the time in it. Life’s too short to read books you don’t enjoy.

This brings me up to 24 out of 52 books. I’m all ahead of myself now 🙂
