This tag was originally created by Laura at Laura’s Book Review, but I found it on The Book Nut. Let’s get into the questions!
1. What are your top 3 book pet peeves?
A) Books with covers that are basically unrelated to the story inside. Just why?! There’s a whole book in there to get ideas from?!
B) Series that suddenly decide to change their cover design… and book height… There I am, carefully making sure I buy the matching set as I go along and then suddenly BAM the next book is an inch taller than all the others and then two books later they get short again but change the cover design system and just argh. Grumble grumble, pretty shelves.
C) Second-Book Syndrome. The first book is amazing and the third book is spectacular… and the second one? Is just there to make it a trilogy and has nothing in it aside from a dodgy romance that means nothing to anyone and a ‘bad guy’ that has no back-story or motivation other than ‘I needed a book two’.
2. Describe your perfect reading spot.
Somewhere I can move round. I like the sofa because I can sit, lie down, slump, sit up straight, stretch out, hang off the end… I’m a fidget, even when I’m reading.
3. Tell us 3 book confessions.
A) I quite often find myself copying characters in the book as I read – ‘X nodded’, I nod. ‘X cocked an eyebrow’, I contort my face in an attempt to do the same. Smile, scowl, tilt their heads… I try really hard not to do it if I’m reading in public but I’ve seen other people’s expressions when I get lost and forget… pretty sure they go away thinking I’m a bit odd.
B) There are books on my shelves I bought with every intention of reading… 15 years ago. They were probably new releases and I was probably WAY EXCITED to get hold of them but just needed to finish that other book first…
C) I have never read To Kill A Mockingbird. I understand this is some sort of bookworm crime. Guilty as charged – although there is a copy on my shelves now which is a step in the right direction!
4. When was the last time you cried while reading?
I cry at books ALL THE TIME. I think the last one to set me off was Obsidio by Aimie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff last month. I cried at all three books in that series, they were very clever. And also broke me.
5. How many books are on your bedside table?
None? Well, technically there’s a notebook and a puzzle book on there but I don’t tend to read in bed often so I don’t keep my books in there. If by that you mean how many am I currently reading? Two physical – As The Kingfisher Catches Fire by Gerard Manley Hopkins and Gold by Chris Cleave, and one audiobook – IT by Stephen King.
6. What is your favorite snack while you’re reading?
I try not to snack when I read because I’m clumsy and get crumbs in my books. I do like having something cool to drink on hand though.
7. Name 3 books you’d recommend to everyone.
A) Daughter Of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor
B) The Sound Of A Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey
C) Girl Detached by Manuela Salvi
8. Describe how much books mean to you in 5 words or less.
Books make real life bearable.
9. What is your biggest reading secret?
Other than having never read To Kill A Mockingbird? Er… I can’t really think of one.
Your bookshelves are so pretty!! 😍

I totally agree with Lily, I adore your bookshelves! And I totally feel you on second book syndrome, it’s honestly insane how often I come across this. But I think that it makes trilogies with great books all around even more incredible 🙂
