This time last year I was on fire – reading my way through a mountain of books to try to study every single subject for my wizarding OWLs as part of a Harry Potter themed readathon.
I didn’t have to read every subject for the Career I had chosen (Magical Librarian) but I wanted to – and I managed it, plus two more!
Needless to say, I am not trying to read every subject this year because I have two Smalls at home to unschool on top of everything else.
However, I have chosen a new career for this year and I am determinded to read my four required subjects and at least one or two extras.
The career I picked seemed like a logical progression from last year’s – I am studying to become a Trader of Magical Tomes.
This requires me to study four subjects, with the following prompts:
Ancient Runes: Book with a heart in the title/on the cover
Charms: Book with a white cover
History of Magic: Book that features witches and/or wizards
Transfiguration: Book/series that involves shape-shifters
This is the little pile I have picked out for my subjects:
Gus & Waldo – Crazy In Love for Ancient Runes, One Of Us Is Lying for Charms, The Furthest Station for History of Magic, and A Field Guide To Fantastical Beasts for Transfiguration.

I have chosen books for all the other subjects, and I am going to try to read them all before the NEWTs roll round later in the year, but I’m not going to try and cram them into April. Because I’d fail and it would be stressful and all the fun of it would die a death.
As my Mum pointed out – all exams have been cancelled anyway so the timescale is flexible!
This stack has all the books I’ve picked out to follow the OWL prompts – a rather large mishmash of genres and styles to keep me going over the next couple of months!

Have you read any of these? What did you think?
