Get To Know Me Better: The Film Edition

Last time, I picked 5 books I’d suggest someone read to get to know me better – this time round I’m hitting the movie scene.

As proven by my feeble attempt to watch an alphabet of films (yes yes, I am still vaguely doing that), my film watching habits are sporadic at best, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like films when I do sit down to watch them. I just sort of never think to sit down and watch them.

And no, shockingly enough, they aren’t all Disney films 😛

Five Films To Watch To Get To Know Me Better

The Lion King

The Lion King or Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, or both, preferably as a marathon. Maybe even stick Lion King 3 on afterwards, too, just to finish the set.

Yes, I know it is just Hamlet with lions, but it has been my favourite since I was 6 when it was released and I have watched it so many times I know every word, and yet the soundtrack still gives me goosebumps, and I still cry at the sad bits.

I like it for different reasons as an adult than I did as a kid, because I see the world from a different perspective now, but I don’t like it any less – the magic is still strong.

The Dead Poets Society

This film is just *flails around for a big enough word to encompass all the feelings*

It speaks to my love of words, of poetry, of drama, of theatre.

It makes you think and question beliefs, societal rules, the world around you.

It also makes me cry and rage and breaks me into all the pieces. But it is beautiful and if you haven’t seen it then you should.

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)

Doggos! Floofy cat! Joy!

I mean, read the book too, obviously. But watch this, with tissues to hand, to get all the feels and animal love.

Also proof that creepy CGI mouth movements are NOT REQUIRED for live action animal films.

Equilibrium

Dystopian Sci-Fi that involves Sean Bean reading Yeats as an act of defiance? Has my name written all over it.

This film harbours my love of dystopian stories, and also explores humanity and emotions through the medium of a very serious Christian Bale. It’s a win, win really.

Anastasia

Oh look, historical fantasy. With singing.

And a very pretty redhead lead. And Russian accents. I do love a Russian accent.

And Bartok the bat. Who is possibly my spirit animal. Have a bonus second clip of him, just because.

So there you go, if you want a movie marathon to get to know me – there’s your five. Don’t forget the popcorn!

What would your five be?

Please leave a comment, I'd love to hear what you think :)
